Idea: Film in slomo the swarm of tiny gnat flies that you find outdoors. They appears to be hundreds of them flying in one small random area. Im referring to the ones you find out in your back yard or out in fields. Another Idea: Swarm of birds, and the assortment of flying bugs in swarms. Another idea: The myth of flying Rods. Yes, its actually the camera shutter making it appear as such, but the areas that these "rods" have been recorded, you could "discover" what the camera is actually seeing with proper slowmo.

It looks like they counted "1 flap" as every time the wings changed direction. I'd argue "1 flap" is one complete motion from position A, to position B and back to position A again. Then again, the hummingbird does generate lift on both strokes so maybe it's a special case.
